Empowerment is necessarily a process of inculcating values to equip the learner to lead a life that is satisfying to the individual while being by the cherished values and ideals of society.
Various types of empowerment programs globally empower youth through many different tactical approaches. Such programs can operate in a variety of settings. Most of these programs work in multiple locations, which may be a critical factor in their success.
The benefits of youth empowerment programs are; improved social skills, behavior, academic achievement, self-esteem, and self-efficacy.
Empowerment skills are of five kinds, namely.
- Life Coping skills.
- Manipulative skills.
- Intellectual skills.
- Communicative skills.
- Artistic skills.
Likewise, some programs are aimed at just empowering women and young girls. Regardless of specific goals or methods, empowering effects include improving women’s well-being, self-esteem, and self-efficacy, and
enhancing their social status by teaching technical and organizational skills.
Similarly, Youth empowerment is a process where young people gain the ability and authority to make informed decisions and implement change in their own lives and other people’s lives. It is a means of encouraging youths to do great things for themselves and to impact their society.
Some of the grounds for youth empowerment include;
- Providing opportunities to experience a sense of mastery or accomplishment on rising to a challenge.
- Helping young people identify their strengths and personal potential.
- Increasing confidence and developing an understanding of individual agency to influence one’s future.
Youth empowerment has many benefits for young people, organizations, and communities, including improved health, especially mental health, and the overall well-being of man and his environment.
And when someone asks, “Will youth empowerment help promote national economic growth?” The answer remains “Yes,”
Youth empowerment will help. To increase the employability of youth, which will, in turn, add to a nation’s GDP and national economy.
Youth empowerment will help youth understand the importance of soft skills training and education, improving the educational system’s standard.
Youth empowerment is pursued by promoting youth rights, activism, and participation in community decision-making.
Empowerment theory suggests that engaging youth in pro-social, meaningful, and community-enhancing activities that they define and control helps them gain the skills, responsibilities, and confidence necessary to become productive and healthy adults.
Other youth empowerment programs are focused on poverty alleviation. The living standards of those living in poverty are declining seriously, causing food, resources, and education deprivation.
When youth participate in established empowerment programs, they see various benefits. Youth involvement and empowerment practices become embedded within the organizational culture and the community culture.
Adults and organizations also benefit from empowerment programs. They both become more communicable and responsive to youth in the community, which leads to program improvements and increased participation from youth.
Nnaedozie Thomas Foundation engages in intellectual skill acquisitions project by providing ICT Awareness & Computers to pupils. We also send youths to vocational schools to acquire technical know-how that will help them provide for themselves and their family.
This will arm them with the expertise needed in the outside world as they take giant steps towards bettering their society.
